All the schools in the Minerva Learning Trust were delighted to take part in the Bridport Mind Fest. With 1 in 10 children believed to suffer from mental health issues at some point in their childhood, this is a really important issue in education. Schools have used the Bridport Mind Fest as an opportunity to discuss mental health with all their children and to support charities like Young Minds.
Zach Dixon from the Sir John Colfox Academy designed the poster for the event. Schools were also raised around £1,500 to support charities who work in this area through Cake sales and a “wear yellow” campaign to raise awareness.
The Minerva Learning Trust Choir performed a song from each school which linked to the theme and came together to sing “Shackles”. Bridport Primary School opened their doors to the community so they could get a sense of what schools do to deal with this very important issue.
“Schools are very skilled at helping children with mental health issues” said David Powell, Chair of Governors at Bridport Primary School. “They offer support and intervention and staff have produced good resources to support children and their families. But there is so much more that could and should be done in this area and events like this are key to raising awareness and keeping the issue on the agenda”.
